HRT Pill Reduces Breast Cancer Risk | TopNews United States

As per a research, which has been published in the Journal Lancet, it has been revealed that the women who take oestrogen-only hormone replacement therapy are able to reduce the risk of breast cancer by 25%.

A group of researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre conducted the research in which they studied 7,645 menopausal women for more than six years. The research findings are quite opposite to a US study, which was taken out in 2002 and concluded that the HRT is not safe for women. It can even cause heart disease and other illnesses.

A recent research has unveiled that more than 2.5 million women across the globe are taking this treatment and they have been benefited from it. The lead researcher, Garnet Anderson, was of the view that they randomly divided the total number and asked one group to take HRT tablets and second group was asked to take dummy pills.

After assessing them for a few days, it was found that the group, which was taking oestrogen-only HRT pills, was 23% at reduced risk to develop breast cancer. In addition, it also found that even if women develop the cancer then also they are 63% less likely to die from it.

Anderson said that the pill was found to be ineffective in the case of women, who had a family history of breast cancer. It was also found that certain negative effects have also been witnessed due to the intake of HRT tablets.

?These latest results should provide reassurance about breast safety of oestrogen use for durations of about five years for women with a hysterectomy seeking relief from post-menopausal symptoms?, said Anderson.

Rachel Greig from the Breakthrough Breast Cancer applauded the study findings and said that the study findings will help to treat menopause among women.
